Snake Gourd kootu or Podalangai kootu Recipe

Hi friends, If you are aiming for your weight loss then snake gourd is the best cure.
Let us learn the recipe to cook podalangai or snake gourd with step by step pictures below …


Step 1: wash and chop podalangai or snake gourd, Pressure cook the same with one spoon of moong dal (pasi parupu)and keep it aside.


Step2:now heat 1 spoon of oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds, after it sputter add urad dal, curry leaves ,pinch of hing and sauté for 5 seconds and add pressure cooked snake gourd (podalangai)and mix well.


Step 3: In a blender add 3 spoons of grated coconut,2 spoons of cumin seeds,and 2 green chilli and grind well by adding water.


Step 4: Now add that grinded masala to it and sauté well by adding salt as needed.


Step 5: cook for 5 to 8 minutes in medium to low flame and stir in between
.
Step 6: switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.

Chow Chow Kootu Recipe / Chayote Kootu Recipe

I love to add milk in my kootu recipe. It make the kootu creamy and makes it look silky. You have to try it to see the results. This is my style of making kootu. So give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you.

STEP1: Pressure cook 1 finely chopped chow chow(chayote) by adding 2 spoons of Yellow Split Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu and a pinch of turmeric powder. Keep it aside.
STEP2: Heat oil in a pan ,Add mustard seeds, Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp,curry leaves,pinch of hing pdr,1 red chilli and sauté for 5 seconds.
STEP3: Now add pressure cooked chow chow with moong dal to it. Sauté well.Add ¼ spoon of sambar powder and cook till the water in the kootu drains. Then add salt.

STEP4: Now add ¼ cup of boiled milk (milk should not be hot).Stir well. Garnish with coriander leaves.

STEP5: Serve hot with sambar rice,rasam rice, or roti.

if you dont want to add milk in your chow chow kootu ,Then you can grind 2 spoons of cumin seeds,1 green chilli,3 spoons of grated coconut together and mix it in kootu and boil it for 5 minutes and switch off the flame.
