Aval upma or poha upma (using tamerind)
Poha or flattened rice or
aval upma Is a breakfast recipe, this upma will be very tasty and also healthy
as it is low in fat. Now am posting aval upma recipe using tamarind .So I named
it as Tamarind Aval upma.
Let us learn it with step by
step photos,
Step 1: Take 2 cups of flattened
rice or aval(use thicker aval or getti aval for this recipe),wash it well.
Step 2: Now squeeze a lemon
size tamarind with ¼ cup of water and filter the tamarind water and mix it with
the cleaned aval and let it set for about 15 mins.
Step 3: mean while chop 3
onions and keep it aside, heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, channa dal, 1
red chilli,1 green chilli, curry leaves, and sauté for 1 minute, Now add
chopped onions and sauté until raw smell goes. Now add the aval or flattened rice
which is soaked in tamarind water and add salt as needed. Mix well and let it
cook for 2 to 3 minutes in medium flame and 10to 15 mins in low flame.
Step 4: (this is optional)add ½ a cup of
raw ground nut and pressure cook it for
about 2 whistles and add it to the aval upma. It adds more taste and health to your aval upma.
